The Hannah/Peggy Christmas Angel

The Hannah/Peggy Christmas Angel

There’s much more to Christmas than just candles, lights and cheer;

It’s the spirit of our friendship that brightens all the years.

In an attempt to capture how grateful I am to each and every one,

I have penned a few words to paper and added a few puns.

As such, you have been forewarned dear reader about what is to come,

This poem may be slightly un-PC given recent associations with fellow pirate scum.

Terms such as ‘wenches’ and ‘Peggy’ are used endearingly and with fondness,

So please take no offense, it’s all in good fun; this I truly promise!

As one other antecedent or background to this poem and / or letter,

I have a slight confession to make so my conscious (or hand) will in the end be better;

Given I started a PhD this year, I have spent many hours plus many days,

Sitting in front of my computer screen whilst crying and trying to rephrase;

As a result, the strength of my fingers and hands is not what it used to be,

And so I am cheating to type my Christmas cards by using technology, specifically my PC.

You may also have noticed the influence eight months has had on my writing style,

I cannot wait for the day not to use extant literature or reference, albeit it will be in awhile.

The next three years will be filled with research, wellbeing programs and data collection;

So please bear with me during this time of craziness – I may be in need of some affection!

Another year has flown by with many more adventures to discuss

From cycling up and down mountains with barely an utter of fuss.

Having the wind blowing in my face that is plastered in a huge grin,

Cycling has been my freedom; I absolutely love going for a spin!

Academic nerdiness was a common theme that bought a lot of cheer–

I was extremely honoured to receive the Deakin Young Alumni of the Year.

Other feats and acts of superhuman endurance or of great length,

Include a high coffee celebration where sugar was consumed in high strength.

I am still feeling the effects of my massive over dose,

If anyone has a solution to my predicament I could overcome my morose.

Collectively from you all I would like to make a small request –

Can you please put in an order for summer; very much appreciated – bless.

Also add to your list before Christmas arrives and adds a dose of dizziness,

Spend time with your family and friends, as they are the key to your happiness.

Other hot tips pertain to channeling your inner turtle;

Going through life at the right speed; not at our 24/7 type of hurtle.

Remember to take time out of each day and live in the moment,

Stop and smell the roses, coffee or chocolate; the rewards will be potent.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Until next time,

Ride with purpose, Ride with a smile, Ride in the moment,

Han
